How to Care for Your Hat

How to Care for Your Hat

Your Bull Ranch hat is crafted with timeless quality, but it lasts even longer with consistent maintenance. Here's a complete guide to maintaining, reshaping, restoring, and packing your hats, ensuring they always look new.

Cleaning by Material

Felt Hats

Hat Brush:

Use our Bull Ranch brush to remove dust and dirt. Brush gently counterclockwise, starting at the front and following the grain of the felt.

Tip: Always brush in the same direction before spot cleaning or applying treatments.

Lint Roller:

Keep a lint roller handy to remove lint, hair, and dust. Frequent use helps maintain your hat's quality.

Tip: Press the roller into hard-to-reach areas like the crown.

Hat Sponge:

Use a dry cleaning sponge to remove stains and give your hat a clean, new look. It's great for makeup smudges.

Tip: Use separate sponges for dark and light hats.

Hat Stiffener Spray:

Preserve your hat's shape and stiffness with our stiffener spray. Hold the bottle 8-10 inches away and lightly mist the hat. Let it dry and wear with confidence.

Cleaning the Sweatband:

The sweatband can accumulate makeup, oils, and sweat. Use a toothbrush, water, and mild soap to scrub and blot dirt away. Your sweatband will be as good as new and smelling fresh.

Straw Hats

General Cleaning:

Use a damp cloth to gently clean the surface of your straw hat.

Tip: Avoid prolonged water exposure to prevent deformation.

Storage:

Store your hat in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to avoid warping and wear.

How to Fix a Smashed Hat

Has your hat become misshapen from travel, storage, or lending it to a friend? Here are several tips to reshape and restore your hat.

Reshape a Felt Hat with a Steamer

Use a handheld or industrial steamer. Let the steam envelope the hat section by section.

The steam softens the area, making it pliable for reshaping with your hands. Avoid over-wetting the hat; if it happens, let it dry and try again.

Using a Boiling Pot of Water:

Boil water in a kettle or pot. Hold your hat about a foot from the steam, letting it roll over the hat section by section.

Alternatively, set your hat on the bathroom sink and let the shower steam work its magic.

Using a Hot Shower

Steam your hat by turning on a hot shower and closing the door to keep the steam in.

Hang the hat away from direct water contact, allowing the steam to envelop it for about 20 minutes.

Tip: This method is also great for floppy hats with creases and helps restore a bent brim.

Additional Tips for Reshaping Your Felt Hat

Use both hands to guide steamed sections of the hat back into shape. Use an open palm for large, flat areas like the brim and your fingers for smaller parts like a pinched crown.

Check the overall shape of the hat frequently to ensure it's forming correctly.

Use photos as inspiration for the style of your brim while reshaping it to look new.

Felt hats sometimes just need the brim steamed. Ensure it's heated evenly and work around the hat until it returns to its original shape.

Rancher-style hats have upturned brims. Flatten the brim near the break line evenly before gently reshaping the upturned edges with steam.

With these care tips, your Bull Ranch hats will stay in perfect condition and have a longer lifespan. If you have any other areas you'd like to work on or additional details to add, let me know.
